hydrowhat?

There's a growing effort to use hydroponics -- a method of cultivating plants in nutrient-rich water instead of soil -- to bring farming into cities. Hydroponic farming requires less water and less land than traditional farming, and reduces the environmental cost of trucking produce to urban centers. Is this the future of agriculture?

I have always been interested in growing all sorts of plants and vegtables. I can clearly remember as a child seeing this book at my elementary school about what the future holds for us. I saw the flying cars, space-suit style clothing, ugly haircuts, etc etc. Hydroponics was sorta in the picture then. I remember them talking about having floating sea-gardens where they filtered out the salt. Crazy.
